- June, 2011, Fundraising Letter
-
- Dear Friends and Neighbors,
-
- We had a busy winter and
spring responding to medical emergencies in our community. Between
Dec 1 and the end of April we were dispatched to over 100
calls. We also held drills and continued our training
in the latest pre-hospital emergency medical and trauma protocols.
-
- LVAC continues pursuing our
goal of professionalism while maintaining the dedication of our
volunteers and their commitment to respond to emergencies every
hour and every day of the year. We are constantly aware that
the consistent generosity and support of you and your neighbors
makes this possible. All the necessary funds that keep us going
are raised by our members through Letters of Appeal, a Father's
Day bake sale, our Annual Auction, memorial or other special
donations and grants. This is all the more remarkable, as LVAC
is not funded by any town, state or federal agency.
-
- Some of the more sobering
and difficult calls we face as EMTs are Motor Vehicle Accidents,
especially those involving our younger drivers. Many of these
accidents are the result of "distracted driving," a
serious and growing problem nationwide. It's not just teen-age
drivers, as research shows that at any moment more than 800,000
Americans are texting, making calls or using a hand-held
device while driving. In fact, drivers who text are 23 times
more likely to be involved in a car crash than non-distracted
drivers. The most recent statistics indicate that as much as
20 percent of crash injuries involved reports of distracted driving
and the trend continues making distracted driving even more deadly
and prevalent than drinking while driving. One report shows that
for every six seconds a driver is texting, 4.6 of those seconds
are with their eyes off the road. Think about it.
-
- Please also think about joining
our very special group of dedicated people in service to our
community. While your generous financial support keeps the ambulances
responding with a fully equipped and trained crew, equally critical
to our continued ability to serve you is the availability of
our volunteer EMTs, Drivers and First Aiders. No experience is
necessary to become an LVAC member. All training will be provided,
including First Aid, CPR, and specialized training if you are
interested in becoming a driver. LVAC will also sponsor anyone
who wishes to become a Certified New York State Emergency Medical
Technician (EMT.)
You Depend on Us and We Depend On
You.
- Please give generously now!
